What is a DJ and Types of DJ

A Disc Jockey is a person who plays recorded music for an audience on radio shows, at nightclubs and at public events. Disc Jockey is a callback to a time when DJ's worked with vinyl records.

Types of DJs:

  • Radio DJ:These are the radio hosts who play music on air, answer requests and often chatter and share news or celebrity gossip
  • Club DJ: These work in night clubs and similar venues, providing music for crowds to dance to
  • Mobile DJ: These work at weddings, school dances, and other big events that require music

What does a DJ do?

In simple terms, they play music. They don't create their own music or perform as a musician. Instead they use pre-recorded music from other artists, usually drawing from a large collection of available songs that suit the theme of the event or venue that the DJ is working at.

Think you can just have a radio? A DJ can mix songs and create musical transitions. Allowing the intro and outro of various songs to lead smoothly into one another allowing music to flow easily and without startling disruptions that might dampen the mood or be distracting from the crowd.
